McMurtrey Aquatic Center
Overview
State-of-the-art swimming, diving, and recreational facility located near Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. The facility includes a large recreation pool as well as a heated Olympic-sized competition pool. The heated Olympic-sized pool has nine - 25-yard lanes, nine - 50-meter lanes and a pair of one and three meter diving boards. The pool's shallow end measures is 3' 6"’ deep and the pool's deep end is 14’ 2’’ deep. The 8,551 sq. ft. recreation pool features zero depth entry, child play features, double water slides, plunge pool, diving boards, water volleyball area, and specially designed interactive wet play equipment. Lockers, showers, and electrical outlets are also available in the two over-sized locker rooms. The facility is used for high school and club meets, as well as a training venue for Olympic athletes. Olympians who have trained at McMurtrey include Gabe Woodward (bronze medal, Men's 4 x 100 meter relay), Rebecca Giddens (silver medal, Women's K1 kayak slalom), Larsen Jensen (silver medal, 1,500 meter freestyle competitive swim), and Joey Hansen (Men's eight rowing event). Over 500 parking spaces are available adjacent to the facility.
